Our team here are all new to the world of distilling. With the guidance of our experienced mentors we’ve been able to build our distillery from scratch, bringing innovative ideas, enthusiasm and an independent spirit to this traditional process.

Daniel Szor
Founder & CEO
The Cotswolds Distillery is the brainchild of Dan Szor, a native New Yorker who had been working in finance in London for many years. Seeking to leave behind that world and spend more time in the Cotswolds with his family, it eventually dawned on him that he could combine his love of whisky with his desire to start a new business. Having found a derelict site near his house, he set about building a distillery and a team to run it, and the doors of the Cotswolds Distillery opened in July 2014.
Paul Beckwith
Director of Strategy and Finance (and corporate pilot)
Paul hails originally from Australia but came to the UK to undertake a DPhil in organic chemistry at Oxford University. The chemistry of botanicals and natural products has been in his veins for a long time. But before discovering the world of craft spirits he spent 18 years on Wall Street as a corporate financier building management owned chemical businesses and 10 years in Switzerland honing his skills as a business angel. Finally he and his family returned to the UK and bumped into Dan and his gin at the Moreton Show. Paul helped Dan with two rounds of crowdfunding and joined the board in early 2017.

Nickolas Franchino, Head Distiller & Operations Manager
Nick’s interest in artisan spirits was piqued at an early age when tasting his Italian relatives’ homemade liqueurs and spirits, and after reaching a crossroads in life knew that making artisan spirits was what he really wanted to do, and that the time was right to follow his heart’s calling. With BA in Archaeology and Masters degrees in Physical Anthropology and Philosophy, and careers in the family import business and the hospitality trade, as well as a short lived and adrenaline-fueled time as a professional cage fighter change was in order. After meeting Dan at an IBD led distilling course in Edinburgh he arrived at the Cotswolds Distillery several months later.

Sales Team

Kevin Fowler, Head of Sales
Kevin’s career in the drinks industry started over 25 years ago, taking a Saturday job at the local off licence in his home county of Gloucestershire. Then, when graduating in Economics he completed a dissertation on drinks retailing and so cemented his interest in all things liquid. As Head of Sales, Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of all trade channels having successfully worked across drink sectors from beer to cider and wine to whisky. Prior to joining us, Kevin set up his own sales & marketing consultancy helping new brands grow so is all too familiar with the challenges of a fledgling business. With senior strategy and leadership roles, trade marketing and insights positions in his background too, Kevin is at the helm of our commercial team so will be continuing to introduce the world to Cotswolds Distillery’s wonderful spirits.

Martin Streets, Head of Marketing
With a passion for great ideas, Martin has spent most of his career working as a Creative Director for advertising agencies and design consultancies in the UK, USA and Europe. He has produced award-winning campaigns across the premium and luxury sectors - from automotive and aviation to high-fashion and lifestyle. Living just up the lane he has seen (literally) the distillery grow from day one. He is the creative brain behind our beautiful imagery, and the King of Puns.

Events Team

Oliver Morris, Head of Events & Mixology
Ollie decided to leave the high pressured world of bar/cocktail management and moved to a rural area of the Cotswolds to start his own cocktail company in 2008. He worked with the distillery on a number of events and cocktail recipes before officially coming onboard as head of the new Cotswolds Distillery Cocktail Company. His real passion is seasonal cocktails, so with its abundance of exciting fresh ingredients the Cotswolds countryside has proved to be the perfect spot for foraging for unique ingredients and flavours.

Accounts Team

Melanie Crowson, Head of Accounts and Administration
Melanie’s background is in accounting for start-ups and small and medium sized businesses and she joined the distillery in Spring 2015. She now heads up the Administration and Accounting teams, and also looks after HR - her remit covers pretty much every element of working life at the distillery. Great with people, and an excellent communicator she helps to keep us all on the straight and narrow, and the distillery flowing.
