As part of our series which introduces you to our all-important distillery team, meet our Events Coordinator, Connor. A self-proclaimed whisky geek and dad to one of our beloved distillery dogs, Cooper the black Labrador, let's find out a little more about Connor and his role at the distillery...
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF!
My name is Connor Teague, I am 26 years old and I’m a spirits enthusiast! I am very lucky to have grown up in the Cotswolds and live in Bourton-on-the-Water. I studied sports and exercise science at university, however after ending up in the drinks industry I think my time there was shaped slightly differently to how I imagined it would! When I am not traveling for whisky shows I enjoy playing football for my local team Bourton Rovers, the best fixture of the year is when we play in the river on August bank holiday Monday, always a great laugh and definitely worth coming to watch if you haven’t seen it.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB INVOLVE?
I am the Events Coordinator, working in the marketing team. I am responsible for all our events from local village fetes to the largest bar shows in the world. It is a very fast-paced role and with the fast growth of the business there are plenty of challenges every day.
WHEN DID YOU START WORKING AT THE DISTILLERY?
I joined the distillery on the 9th October 2017.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE DRINKS INDUSTRY?
My first real job in the spirits industry was bar work and it was only ever supposed to be a short-term job while I looked to begin my career in the world of sports and exercise. I fell in love with the creative nature of cocktails and spirits but hated the hours, so applied for a vacancy at the distillery and now have the best of both worlds - a 9-5 job and still in the drinks industry!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE DISTILLERY?
Getting to travel the world and introduce people to amazing spirits that were made within 30 mins of where I have grown up.
WHAT'S THE TRICKIEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
Sometimes last minute opportunities come up which means I have to organise big events with very little notice, such as Imbibe - the biggest bar show in the UK, 4 days before the event. Luckily the event turned out to be a great success! Sharing an office with the rest of the marketing team who all have different music tastes also means that getting my Spotify playlist to last more than a couple of songs is also very tricky!
IF YOU HAD ANY ADVICE FOR ANYONE LOOKING AT GETTING INTO THE INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
The spirits industry is massive and presents a huge range of opportunities, from small local distilleries up to some of the biggest businesses in the world. I have not met anyone who doesn’t absolutely love what they do within the events side of the spirits industry.
WHERE DO YOU GO FOR ANY GIN OR WHISKY INSPIRATION?
@Havewhiskywilltravel on instagram is all the industry inspiration I need.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE COTSWOLDS SPIRIT?
Hedgerow Gin (batch 1).
FAVOURITE COTSWOLDS SERVE?
Boulevardier - Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, sweet vermouth and Campari in equal measures (25ml) served over a clear ice sphere.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS OFF IN THE COTSWOLDS?
In the most Cotswolds fashion, you’ll find me out walking Cooper with my girlfriend Talisa, followed by a trip to a local pub for a pint and a great meal.
