Liqueur FAQs
What is a cream liqueur?
Cream liqueur is a spirit-based alcoholic beverage blended with dairy cream or a creamy alternative. Featuring a spirit (such as whisky, rum or vodka) and sugar, expect a smooth, sweet texture that is almost dessert-like in character.
Often flavoured with chocolate, vanilla, coffee or caramel, cream liqueurs typically have a lower alcoholic content compared to neat spirits - a balance between a spirit and an indulgent treat.
Our Cotswolds Cream Liqueur is made by mixing our single malt whisky with fresh cream for a rich, silky texture and notes of vanilla and butterscotch.
How should you drink a cream liqueur?
Serve a cream liqueur either chilled, near or over ice. For the best results, consider simplicity to ensure the texture and flavours shine through. Alternative servings include with coffee or hot chocolate, or in dessert-style cocktails, such as a cappuccino martini variation. We recommend enjoying our Cotswolds Cream Liqueur by pouring it over an ice cream of your choice.
Is cream liqueur gluten free?
Some cream liqueurs are gluten free, however, not all. It all depends on the base spirit, and added flavourings. Make sure to always check the label or producer guidance.
Our Cotswolds Cream Liqueur is made with our Single Malt Whisky. Whilst single malt is produced from barley (which is not gluten free), the distillation process leaves behind the gluten proteins so the final product is gluten-free - making our Cream Liqueur also gluten-free and suitable for coeliacs.
How long can cream liqueur last?
Unopened bottles usually last a long time, but shelf life varies by brand. Storage conditions matter, especially keeping it cool and away from direct sunlight.
Once opened, keep our Cotswolds Cream Liqueur refrigerated and consumed within 6 months.
What is Whisky Amaro?
Amaro is a traditional Italian bittersweet liqueur, usually sipped after a meal as a digestif. Our Whisky Amaro Liqueur No.1 takes that classic Italian style and blends it with Cotswolds single malt whisky, giving it a distinctly English, fruit-forward twist.
How do you drink Whisky Amaro Liqueur?
Serve it neat or over ice as an after-dinner digestif, or use it in place of a traditional Italian amaro in cocktails for a whisky-led alternative. Try both our Whisky Amaro Liqueur No.1 and Whisky Amaro Liqueur No.2 to find your preferred style.
What is Cotswolds Summer Cup?
Cotswolds Summer Cup is a gin-based spirit built around summer fruit and botanicals, designed to be served long over ice with a mixer such as lemonade or soda water.
How do you serve Cotswolds Summer Cup?
Pour our Cotswolds Summer Cup over ice, top with lemonade or soda water, and finish with fresh mint, cucumber, or strawberries for a refreshing summer serve.
What is Cotswolds Wild Spritz?
Cotswolds Wild Spritz is a bittersweet English aperitivo, hand-crafted in the Cotswolds for golden hour evenings and the ritual of slowing down. Bright citrus, soft florals, and layered botanicals come together in a dry, refined style.
Is Cotswolds Wild Spritz ready to drink, or does it need mixing?
For the perfect serve, pour Wild Spritz with chilled sparkling wine and a splash of soda to release bright florals and citrus to make our Cotswolds Wild Spritz cocktail. Garnish with orange peel or wedge.
What's the difference between Summer Cup and Wild Spritz?
Both are gin-based and designed for long, spritz-style serves over ice, but they lean into different flavour profiles - Summer Cup is built around classic summer fruit, while Wild Spritz centres on wildflower botanicals.
Are Cotswolds spirits and liqueurs gluten free?
Yes. All our spirits are distilled, and distillation removes the gluten proteins from the grain, so our full spirits range is gluten-free and suitable for coeliacs. Our Cream Liqueur is also gluten-free for the same reason.
Are these liqueurs suitable for vegans?
Our Cream Liqueur isn't suitable for vegans, as it's made with dairy cream. Our gin-based spirits don't contain dairy, though as with all our whisky-based products, our Amaro may carry a trace of the butter used during whisky fermentation - something we're in the process of phasing out.
How should I store these once opened?
Keep Cream Liqueur refrigerated and use within 6 months of opening. Our higher-strength spirits and liqueurs, like the Amaro, Summer Cup, and Wild Spritz, can be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and enjoyed at your own pace.
